Termites cited as the primary cause of demolition for Tiger Wood’s ex-wife’s 12 million dollar home.
Elin Nordegren, the ex-wife of Tiger Woods had her 12 million dollar mansion completely bulldozed due to irreversible damage caused by termites. The home was purchased in 2011 and according to what her builder told People Magazine, the six bedrooms, 17,000 square foot home was not built according to code. Located in North Palm Beach, Florida, the home was not even strong enough to withstand any potential hurricane that could have affected the area. Habitat for Humanity discovered the entire home covered with termites and carpenter ants. This made it necessary to simply tear down the entire structure and begin again with another home.
Elin who was living close by with her two children asked the charity if they would like to come in and save some of the cabinets, fixtures, and hardware worth tens and thousands of dollars prior to the wrecking crew arriving. Bobbi Blodgett, the director of the deconstruction at Habitat for Humanity state that “When the windows were pulled out, the bugs were all over…The idea of rebuilding that home would have been ridiculous. We are very grateful to Elin” Ms. Nordegren received a $100 million dollar settlement after her divorce.
